So, I'm now going to start keeping a regular blog, so keep checking for updates! I'm not used to doing this sort of thing, so please bare with me as I try to work on it :) I also need to get used to doing a regular forecast discussions, so any input you guys have would be welcome.
From a record breaking number of February tornadoes (138 I believe) during the Super-Tuesday Outbreak to the first tornado to hit downtown Atlanta on record, this has been an incredibly active season that will be long remembered.
Things even look to be heating up today, yet again, across the central Plains, with a moderate risk area located in central Kansas, southern Nebraska, and extreme northern Oklahoma. A slight risk area covers surrounding portions of Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kansas--including Oklahoma City and Wichita.

- I am originally from Dalton, GA and am a second-year graduate student at Texas Tech University earning a Masters in Atmospheric Science. I earned my B.S. in Geography and Atmospheric Science at the University of Georgia in 2004. My research interests are focused on supercell to bow echo transitions and other thunderstorm outflow events. My first experience with field research occurred last year during the 2009 field phase of VORTEX2 when I worked with StickNet Team 3 as a deployer and navigator. This team was a trailer team responsible for deploying the coarse StickNet array. This year, I will be a deployer with StickNet Team 2 who is responsible for deploying the fine scale arrays, closer to the core of the storms. I consider my experience with the project to be an invaluable learning experience and hope the data collected can help further the science of meteorology. I have been fascinated with weather my entire life, and I have a great deal of respect for the forces of nature and how life-changing an event like a tornado can actually be. Weather affects everyone, everywhere on a daily basis, and I count myself lucky to be participating in this large-scale research initiative.
